The National Police have arrested thirteen members of a drug organisation who were using flights to Arrecife to smuggle cocaine and heroin to the Canaries.

The National Police have made arrests in Lanzarote, Fuerteventura and Algeciras as part of an ongoing investigation into a drug trafficking organisation.

It began after the police had intercepted and arrested an individual at the Lanzarote Airport who had been found with 1,300 grams of heroin in their luggage. An investigation was then launched to identify other members involved in the operation.

The group, made up of at least 13 people had been using domestic flights to smuggle cocaine and heroin into the Canary Islands.

During the operation, 13 houses were searched in Arrecife, Corralego and in Algeciras, where they seized 6 kilos of cocaine, 1.75 kilos of heroin and approximately 90,000 euros in cash.

The police have arrested 12 men and one woman (10 in Lanzarote, 2 in Algeciras and 1 in Fuerteventura.)
