The dismantling of the Telamon shipwreck near Costa Teguise has been suspended, with the possibility that it may not recommence for months or years, if ever.
Canarias 7 reports that Recuperadora Lanzarote, the scrap company in charge of the salvage contract, has suspended operations due to “bureaucratic problems and environmental actions” and that it is “unlikely” that it will start up again soon.
Heavy machinery and protective fencing has been removed from the beach near the wreck, and the shipwreck appears little different from when salvage work started last year. However, divers report that some work has been carried out underwater, and as a result the wreck is even more dangerous than before.
