Last week, Teguise Ayuntamiento took its tourism promotion to the global stage at the World Travel Market (WTM) in London. Attending one of the world’s most significant tourism fairs, the municipality aimed to strengthen its position as a sustainable, competitive, and high-quality destination.
Teguise Mayor Olivia Duque and Councillor for Tourism, Rita Hernández, represented the municipality at the event, where the Canary Islands and Lanzarote collectively highlighted their leadership in the sector with a firm focus on sustainability and innovation.
At the fair, the Teguise delegation held a series of high-level meetings. These included discussions with the Canary Islands Government’s Minister of Tourism, Jessica de León, the President of the Lanzarote Island Council, Oswaldo Betancort, and the President of Asolan and the Lanzarote Tourism Federation, Susana Pérez, alongside other institutional and business leaders.
The team also engaged with the Canary Islands Tourist Municipalities group and key industry players, including British Airways, Jet2, and several major British tour operators. The goal was to boost promotion for Costa Teguise and solidify relationships with the island’s primary source market, the United Kingdom.
“Our presence at the WTM has allowed us to defend our tourism model and listen to the sector, reinforcing Teguise’s position as a sustainable, competitive, and excellent destination,” said Mayor Olivia Duque. She also stressed “the importance of continuing to work hand in hand with the administrations and the business community to consolidate quality tourism with a future.”
Councillor for Tourism, Rita Hernández, reflected very positively on the London agenda. She highlighted that the municipal team held productive meetings with operators and companies who see great potential in Costa Teguise. Hernández emphasised that such meetings are crucial for enhancing promotion in the British market and for maintaining Teguise’s profile within the wider tourist offering of Lanzarote and the Canary Islands. The municipality’s participation in the World Travel Market reaffirms the Teguise City Council’s commitment to public-private collaboration, strategic planning, and tourism innovation as fundamental pillars for the destination’s continued development.
