The Mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque, held a meeting alongside councilmembers and the Cabildo to finalise a series of measures designed to improve mobility across the municipality.
“Although public transport is not a direct responsibility of Teguise Ayuntamiento, we assume the responsibility of leading, mediating, and coordinating so that solutions reach each of our towns,” said the mayor.
Costa Teguise
A central focus of the talks was the new Costa Teguise bus station. It was confirmed that the inaugural line to depart from this hub will be the Costa Teguise – La Caleta de Famara route, improving links between two of the municipality’s tourist and residential centres.
Furthermore, they will introduce a new direct line connecting Costa Teguise with Lanzarote Airport. An upgrade for both residents and holidaymakers, it has scope to extend the network with additional connections in the future.
Councillors noted that the station is more than a transport hub, “it delivers a functional and secure environment, complete with communal areas and a children’s playground, thereby adding tangible social value to the community.”
Resident-Led Initiatives
In response to repeated requests from local residents, the meeting also examined the potential creation of an internal bus line within Costa Teguise. The Cabildo will commission a technical study to determine the most suitable option, assessing its viability, route alignment, and anticipated passenger demand across the town.
Discussions also turned to the installation of new shelters at school bus stops in various villages throughout the municipality, a move intended to improve both the safety and comfort of students during their daily commute.
Taxi-Bus and Licensing
Another significant issue on the agenda was the long-awaited implementation of the taxi-bus service in Caleta de Caballo and Los Cocoteros, a demand that residents of both communities have voiced for years. The Cabildo confirmed that the relevant administrative files are now complete and awaiting only the signing of the necessary documentation, a final procedural step prior to the service’s launch.
