Teguise Ayuntamiento has announced the the 8th edition of its History Conference. This year’s theme, “Archaeology: Excavated Memory,” promises a deep dive into the role of archaeology in uncovering and preserving its history. The event will run from October 9th to October 30th.
The sessions will be held in the afternoons across two of Teguise’s most iconic venues. The conference will commence at the Teguise Municipal Theatre on October 9th and 10th, before moving to the Convento de Santo Domingo for the dates of October 16th, 17th, and 30th. The event is free to attend and will be streamed live online.
Registration is now officially open. Those wishing to participate can secure their place by sending an email to jornadasteguise@gmail.com with their full name, ID number, and preferred mode of attendance (in-person or online).
Mayor Olivia Duque highlighted the council’s dedication to cultural preservation, stating: “This type of initiative allows us to continue discovering, sharing, and protecting the memory that archaeology reveals, thus contributing to the knowledge and conservation of the past, both locally and generally.”
This year’s programme offers a particularly broad and exciting scope. Councillor for Archives and Heritage, Mar Boronat, revealed that topics will range from the first settlement of Lanzarote and the 15th-century European conquest to the development of Teguise itself and even palaeontology. In a major coup for the conference, the world-renowned anthropologist Juan Luis Arsuaga will be giving a lecture on the island for the very first time.
All sessions will be broadcast live on the Teguise TV YouTube channel, ensuring everyone can engage with this valuable knowledge, regardless of their location.
Supported by the Government of the Canary Islands, the full programme and further details are available on the Teguise Archive website: www.archivoteguise.es.
The talks will be given in Spanish, however, you can utilise YouTube’s translate feature to watch the conferences with subtitles of your choice.
