Local police officers from Teguise and Haría managed to prevent a woman from taking her own life by driving off the Famara cliff on Monday evening.
At 9.10pm officers were alerted by a family member who had discovered a suicide note. Trhe local police chief rapidly organised a search and the woman was discovered in the area of the Ermita de las Nieves.
After using their car to block the route to the cliff edge, police began talking with the woman. Finally, health workers took her to the Dr José Molina Orosa Hospital in an ambulance.
Last year, firemen retrieved the remains of 15 cars from the Famara cliffs. Since then, another suicide has occurred.
