The Canarian Government has issued a pre-alert for wind, rain, storms and rough seas in anticipation of the arrival of Storm Francis on the evening of Thursday January 1st.

All indications seem to show that the passage of Francis will be quick, lasting only a few hours, and affecting the western Canary Islands more than Lanzarote. However, the island’s Cabildo has activated its emergency plan to deal with any contingencies.

Spain’s meteorological agency AEMET has also issued a yellow rain and storm alert for Thursday evening, with the possibility of up to 15 mms of rainfall per hour between 6 pm and midnight.
