St. Patrick’s Day was a hit once again in Puerto del Carmen. It’s great to see how much this celebration has grown year on year, with an increasing number of partygoers every edition.

Either dressed in green or wearing a shamrock, the Tías Mayor and his fellow councillors kicked off the celebrations, which included live music throughout the day in the Plaza del Varadero, a parade through the streets and market stalls.

Tías Mayor, José Juan Cruz, praised the Irish community for their integration and participation in the public life of Puerto del Carmen. He also thanked the Irish for choosing the resort as their preferred tourist destination. In 2022, 269,914 tourists came to Lanzarote from Ireland.

Juan Cruz paid tribute to the popular Irish businessman, Charlie Chapman, who tragically passed away this year. Chapman was one of the driving forces behind the St. Patrick’s Day celebrations on Lanzarote. Charlie was the owner of the famous Charlie’s Bar pub in the Centro Atlántico.
