Lanzarote has maintained its seven Blue Flag awards for beaches in 2023.
Blue Flag status is awarded for a series oif criteria, including water quality, public services, environmental factors and security.
Previous Blue Flag holders such as Playa del Jablillo in Costa Teguise and Playa de la Garita in Arrieta have not managed to regain the award. At the time this was due to shortcomings in disabled access, lifeguard services and public conveniences rather than water quality.
The beaches are as follows:
Arrecife: Playa del Reducto.
Playa Blanca: Playa Blanca Town Beach.
Costa Teguise: Playa de las Cucharas.
Puerto del Carmen: Playa Grande, Matagorda , Pil de la Barilla (Playa Chica) and Los Pocillos.
Puerto Calero has also maintained its Blue Flag sporting marina status.
