The Guardia Civil’s animal wing, SEPRONA, has initiated criminal proceedings against an Arrecife woman whose two dogs attacked and injured another woman and killed the smaller dog she was walking.
The victim was taking her small dog for a walk in December last year when two large, unleashed Presa Canaria mastiffs that were not wearing muzzles attacked the pet. The dog died of its injuries, and its owner was knocked to the ground and suffered bite wounds to her hands and legs while trying to save her pet.
The owner of the dogs then arrived on the scene, gathered her dogs and fled, without calling the police or offering any kind of assistance. She then hid the dogs in a abandoned building belonging to relatives and tried to get rid of all evidence that showed she kept any dogs at her home.
Seprona officers finally tracked down the dogs and established that were being kept in a ruined building in unhygienic conditions.
The dogs have been impounded and the owner faces charges of criminal injury due to gross negligence and animal cruelty.
