Pedro San Ginés has demanded improvements to Lanzarote airport in Spain’s Senate.

The Ex-Cabildo President and current Senator for Coalición Canaria in Spain’s upper house presented the Ministry of the Interior with a number of questions about security resources at Lanzarote’s Airport, saying that it was “obvious on the ground that the current means are not sufficient to properly manage” passengers.

He asked the Ministry to “accepts that Lanzarote is a first-class destination and cannot continue with such precarious means” and asked specifically that it take the complicated situation of British passengers into account.

British passports have needed to be stamped since Brexit, although the airport has only enforced this since June, causing long queues on arrival.

The situation at the airport has been heavily criticised by police unions, tourist federations, Lanzarote’s Cabildo and many tourism companies. Queues have become so regular that certain airlines are now warning passengers of possible delays on arrival at Lanzarote.
