The Cabildo have launched the second edition of the “Consume Lanzarote” campaign, which once again aims to promote local commerce with shopping cards.
The Cabildo will invest approximately 450,000 euros in the second edition of “Consume Lanzarote”, an increase on last year’s budget of 300,000 euros. They will issue shopping cards to the public which can be redeemed in participating shops.
The idea
Consumers pay half of the amount of the shopping card (60 euros total) and the Cabildo pay for the remaining 30 euros. With a maximum of six cards per person, shoppers can then use that card to purchase items in participating shops.
Last year, in the first edition of the campaign, 5,000 cards were put up for sale on March 1st and were sold out by March 9th. More than 200 local businesses participated.
This year, if a shopper chooses to buy the maximum number of cards available to them, they will have a total of 360 euros to spend in the shops. The cards will be available via the Consume Lanzarote app.
Interested businesses will have from the end of January until March 1st to register, and residents will be able to buy and use the cards from March 1st until May 31st.
