Rough seas saw the closure of the pier at Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen, as well as red flags on several tourist beaches this weekend.
High seas forced Tías’ volunteer fire service to tape off the pier at Playa Chica on Saturday after police has warned of the risk to passers-by. The pier has no walls or railings, and can be risky when high seas break over it.
Red flags were raised in many resorts, as lifesavers judged that conditions were too dangerous for swimming. Conditions are now much calmer and Lanzarote looks forward to a sunny, slightly breezy week.
