Lanzarote experienced a rare rainy August day yesterday. It is the first time rainfall has been registered on the island in August since 2019.

The rain arrived at around midday from the south and fell all over the island. 2.2 litres fell at Playa Blanca and in Tías, while the airport registered 2 litres of rain.

Elsewhere, central and eastern Fuerteventura received the heaviest downpours, with over 9 litres at the airport and the municipality of Antigua receiving 4 litres. Fuerteventura also experienced thunder and lightning.

The rains were not heavy enough to cause flooding, and no incidents have been reported.
