The Canarian Government has maintained the pre-alert for rains today (Monday), although predictions are that any rainfall will be light, occurring in the earlier part of the day.
The unstable weather of the last few days has led to low-level alerts being issued throughout the Canaries, although rainfall has generally been localised and flooding incidents have been few.
Meanwhile, the Nueva Canarias party has called for an update and revision of general emergency plans on Lanzarote. President Yone Caraballo said, “The La Palma volcano, the Covid pandemic and the floods in Valencia show that we are facing a time of great changes that requires public planning to provide security to our citizens.”
Caraballo said “Historically, on Lanzarote there has been little consideration for prevention, since we are used to nothing serious ever happening. When we have suffered extreme events such as rain or traffic accidents with several victims, the emergency and health teams have had difficulties in dealing with these situations, which they alleviate by their great professionalism.”
