Playa Chica in Puerto del Carmen was re-opened to bathers and divers yesterday following the underwater collapse of the seabed on Sunday.

Members of the volunteer fire service Boluntis and emergency service Emerlan have examined the state of the seabed, concluding that what happened was “an earth movement that did not affect the foundations of the pier nor the rocky areas of the beach”.  Based on this information, Tías Ayuntamiento have decided to re-open the zone.

The beach was closed on Sunday after local police were informed that divers in the area had seen “a large slope of sand and stones collapsing.”
