Playa Blanca’s town beach will fly a Blue Flag once again after collecting the flag this Wednesday.

This Wednesday, Yaiza’s councillor for tourism and beaches, Daniel Medina, received the town beach’s blue flag at an awards ceremony held in Santa Cruz de Tenerife.

While accepting the flag, Medina stated, “We make an important effort from the council to provide this beach with the necessary facilities and services to meet all the requirements of this certification, which each year are more severe, and we should feel very proud to maintain this award year after year and to enjoy a beach of these characteristics in the centre of town.”

WHAT IS THE BLUE FLAG FOR?

Beach flags can indicate a number of things about the beaches you visit, green means bathing allowed orange to swim with caution, red is swimming forbidden.

However, the Blue Flag is awarded to beaches and marinas that offer excellent facilities and environmental conditions.

SEWAGE LEAKS

Shortly after the announcement that Playa Blanca’s town beach would receive a Blue Flag for 2024, the beach was closed on two separate occasions due to sewage confirmation.

Following this, the Ecologists In Action group awarded the beach with a new, black flag.

Playa Blanca’s is one of 48 beaches in Spain to receive the black flag in the report, which criticises the touristification of the Canaries.
