Residents and visitors joined together in Playa Blanca to celebrate the Virgen del Carmen celebrations.

Over 50 boats escorted the “Simaraca” – the boat commissioned to bring the Virgen to the coast – where she was then brought to the town and escorted around.

On behalf of the Yaiza Ayuntamiento, the Mayor, Óscar Noda, and Festivities Councillor, Javier Camacho, want to express their gratitude to the participation but also the exemplary behaviour of the public that resulted in no incidents.

Chanting the name of the Virgen del Carmen, the crowd danced and enjoyed the musical performances on offer.

Finally, the town prayed with the parish priest, Jonathan Almeida, who paid special tribute to the victims of covid and those who have recently died at sea crossing between North Africa and the Canary Islands.
