At least 63 migrants are estimated to have died on a boat that left Senegal in the direction of the Canaries over a month ago.
A Spanish fishing boat located the patera drifting near the Cape Verde islands, and rescued 38 people who had miraculously survived by living on supplies left by those who had died of exposure and dehydration. The boat confirmed that four children aged between 12 and 16 were among the survivors, and all were in “ a bad way”.
The migrant support charity Caminando Fronteras claims that it informed authorities in four countries about the missing boat on 20th July, and says that 130 passengers were reported to be aboard.
