A passenger died at Lanzarote’s César Manrique Airport yesterday while waiting in a queue at passport control after arriving on a flight from the UK.
Guardia Civil have stated that the death was of “natural causes”, while other sources specified that the man suffered a heart attack.
In response to claims that the passenger had been queueing for one and a half hours, airport authority AENA said that the flight disembarked at 2.26 pm and the call for medical assistance occurred 22 minutes later, at 2.48 pm. The death was registered at 3.45 pm in the corridor leading to the luggage carousels.
The arrivals area at the airport has experienced repeated long queues and tailbacks in recent months, which often occur at busy times such as Thursdays. There have also been several complaints from passengers with health or mobility problems.
