Óscar Noda, of the opposition group on Lanzarote’s Cabildo, has called for the replacement of the central reservation of the LZ-20 road from Arrecife to San Bartolomé, claiming that it disrupts the natural passage of sand known as El Jable.
Noda explained: “El Jable is a large area of organic sand, extending from Famara beach to Playa Honda, that is usually moved by the wind, but which is currently partially obstructed due to the buildings that have been built and, in particular, the central reservation of the LZ-20 and the industrial area of Argana Alta.”
Noda proposes that the Cabildo remove the raised concrete central reservation of the LZ-20 or replace it with a less obstructive version, such as the one seen on the LZ-2 at El Cable. “The preservation of El Jable is, therefore, fundamental, not only for the natural beauty of Lanzarote, but also for the conservation of its biodiversity,” concludes Councillor Óscar Noda.
