Cabildo councillor Óscar Noda has called for a comprehensive update of Lanzarote’s footpaths and hiking routes.
Noda said “As our island is a first-class tourist destination and, given the growth sustainable tourism, the Cabildo should promote the use of our footpaths through a website or app with signposted routes and information, downloadable in different formats and available in various languages.”
Noda pointed out that Haría and Tinajo have already publicized their footpaths, and that Yaiza (of which he is Mayor) has been developing a similar project for 18 months.
Noda proposes four types of route: first, a coastal path around the perimeter of the island; second, main routes connecting larger towns and villages; third, smaller secondary paths linking the main trails, and finally, paths that are not connected to any other part of the island.
The project will, he believes, increase the appeal of Lanzarote among younger visitors and “our most demanding tourists.”
