In the early hours of this morning, fire fighters were called to numerous fires in Arrecife involving both rubbish containers and a vehicle.

At approximately 1am this morning, the emergency services were alerted to three separate fires on Calle Fasnia, Leopoldo Von Buch and Tornajo, in the capital of Lanzarote.

While extinguishing the first report of a fire on Calle Fasnia, the fire fighters were alerted to another fire involving a vehicle on Calle Leopoldo Von Buch.

Additionally, they were later contacted by local police who informed them of yet another fire involving rubbish containers on Calle Tornajo.

All fires were safely extinguished, however, the containers and vehicle involved were damaged.

The problem continues

Despite arresting various perpetrators of fires on Lanzarote, the problem continues. Over the past year some alleged perpetrators have been caught on CCTV and arrested by police, with one man even admitting to it openly in Yaiza last year: https://gazettelife.com/news/wanted-arsonist-arrested/

Last year’s annual report revealed that 1097 services were carried out in 2022, 6% more than those completed in 2021. Of the total number of services, 113 related to the burning of containers, affecting a total of 234 rubbish containers: https://gazettelife.com/news/emergency-services-annual-report/
