Cardiologist Carlos Vasquez has carried out the first example of a new type of arterial closure operation at Lanzarote’s Dr Jose Molina Orosa hospital.
The operation was part of a coronary bypass operation and involved the positioning of a collagen patch on an artery. On contact with blood, the patch expands and seals the artery.
The operation was carried out on a 47-year-old patient diagnosed with heart disease and arterial congestion. The new technology will promote faster recovery and reduce hospital stays, and its convenience and ease of use is likely to make it an effective tool for the Hospital’s Catheterization and Cardiology Unit.
