A new cycling event that will cover the whole island has been announced by Club La Santa, taking place in 2024, and has been added to the International Cycling Union calendar.

Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, presented the first edition of the Vuelta Ciclista a Lanzarote race in Madrid this week. The new sporting event will be organised by Club La Santa and will take place on September 28th and 29th in 2024.

Cabildo Vice-President, Jacobo Medina, thanked Club La Santa for the organisation and stated, “I’m sure it will be a text that will be a fixture in the island sports calendar.”

Of the nearly 420,000 cyclists that visited the Canary Islands in 2022, 40% travelled to Lanzarote. The new race will span the seven municipalities on Lanzarote.

The competition will consist of two stages covering a distance of 190 kilometres and most of the tourist attractions on the island.

Stage 1 (115km) will see cyclists start at Club La Santa, taking them through Famara, Teguise, Los Valles, Haría, Mirador del Río, Ye, Arrieta, Costa Teguise, Arrecife, Güime, Montaña Blanca, Conil, and Hoya Limpia.

Stage 2 (75km) will see cyclists start at Puerto del Carmen, taking them through Hoya Limpia, Conil, Tegoyo, La Geria, Las Casitas, Femés, Playa Blanca, LZ701, La Hoya, Yaiza, Timanfaya, Mancha Blanca, and Tinajo, before returning to Club La Santa.
