We’re planning an article on the large debts that thousands of self-employed workers have incurred through no fault of their own and would like to hear from anyone who has been a victim of this issue.
Throughout Spain, several thousands of self-employed workers have been presented with demands from their mutuas (mutual insurance companies covering workplaces). These often amount to several thousands of Euros and result from what the mutuas claim are “improper” payments made during the Covid pandemic of 2020-2021.
In many cases, the workers had no knowledge of the debt until the demands arrived, and the nature of the improper payments is extremely complicated.
The situation does not look good for those presented with such a debt, as the claims are fully backed by the government, but we’d like to hear from anyone who has been saddled with such a debt and suggest the best plan of action.
