The Mayor of Yaiza, Óscar Noda, has called for an increase in Guardia Civil to reflect the increase in population, especially in Playa Blanca.

In a recent statement, Noda explained that “the security of the island lies with the Guardia Civil, as the National Police are based in Arrecife, and although the collaboration between the two bodies is close, and very good relations are maintained with the Local Police of Yaiza, the types of crimes vart, along with the frequency.”

“After the pandemic, we noticed an increase in the number of visitors, which is very good for the economy of the island, but we need to be prepared for what this increase means in terms of security and crime prevention. A greater presence of agents serves as a deterrent to would-be criminals. This responsibility cannot fall solely on the shoulders of the local police, nor can it add to the workload of the Guardia Civil officers on duty, so it is a priority to have more officers and better resources at our disposal”, he added.

Noda has appealed to the Canarian Government to increase the number of Guardia Civil stationed at the Yaiza post.
