Tinajo local police ordered a dozen teenagers off the No 16 bus from Arrecife to la Santa on 28th January after they had caused trouble, upsetting other passengers.
The adolescents were unaccompanied minors who are staying at the Migrant Centre in la Santa, and one witness claims they damaged a seat and a screen on the bus.
Ricardo Hernández, union rep for Arrecife Bus/Intercity Bus said that drivers “have felt unsafe on this route for years, but the directors of the bus company have done nothing about it.”
Hernández also revealed that drivers on the bus to Maguéz had recently been verbally insulted by passengers.
“Two drivers are currently off work because of the stress of the job,” Hernández said. “With so many passengers and vehicles on the roads, it is impossible to arrive according to the timetable, and passengers do not understand that the driver is not to blame.”
