More than fifty skateboarders competed in the first edition of the Cabildo’s new sporting event titled “Mojo Wheels”.

“Never before has a skateboarding championship in Lanzarote brought together so many participants that are at a high level”, stated the Cabildo’s Youth Councillor, Myriam Barros.

The Extreme Centre in Playa Honda hosted the Mojo Wheels event last Saturday (November 26th). The event was organised by the Cabildo’s Youth Department together with the Extreme Centre, which brought together outstanding skateboarders from the Canary Islands, some of which are nationally renowned.

The championship began at 2pm with the Under-12 category, where 20 participants showed off their skills. First place went to Kayden Cantoni (11 years old, from Lanzarote), second place went to Pietro Francesconi (9 years old, from Fuerteventura), and third place went to Amán Rodriguez (9 years old, from Lanzarote).

At 3:30pm the Under-16 category began. First place went to Nael Marra (14 years old, from Lanzarote), second place went to Pietro Francesconi (9 years old, from Fuerteventura) and third place to Kayden Cantoni (11 years old, from Lanzarote).

The Open Femenina category began at 5pm with the participation of young women from all over Spain. First place went to Valentina Planes (15 years old, from A Coruña), second place went to Natalia Muñoz (14 years old, from Cádiz), and third place went to Afrika Criado (15 years old, from Vitoria).

The last category was the Open Masculina. First place went to Fernando Velasco (26 years old, from Madrid), second place went to Aday Blanco (23 years old, from Fuerteventura), and third place went to Mohamed Benali from Lanzarote.

In the “Open” categories there was a cash prize of 2,000 euros to be shared between the top 3 winners in both categories.
