Missing swimmer’s body discovered

The lifeless body of the bather who went missing on Sunday afternoon was found yesterday at Famara beach.

Two surfers discovered the body of the 28-year-old Indian man who had been caught up in a dangerous current with two friends. Another man, a Romanian aged 37, also drowned in the incident. Initial reports that they were surfing were incorrect. 

Intensive searches involving helicopters and boats had failed to locate the missing man, but it appears that, after being swept out to sea, the waves were washing him back to the shore of Famara.

The confirmed death brings the total of drownings on Lanzarote to 11 this year.
