A maritime signalling flare found on a beach on Lanzarote’s north coast was deactivated by the Guardia Civil last Wednesday.
After a citizen reported the discovery of an object that looked like an explosive device, the Special Explosive Devices Deactivation Group of the Guardia Civil arrived, cordoned off part of the shore at Caleta Caballo and neutralised the flare.
The device, which was 46 cms long and 7 cms in width, is used for military signalling purposes and contains pyrotechnic material that could be dangerous.
The Guardia Civil advises anyone who discovered an object that they suspect to be an explosive device to not touch it, to distance themselves from the device and to immediately contact police, Guardia Civil or call 112.
