Staff from the Centres of Art, Culture and Tourism (CACT) have removed parts of Manrique’s sculpture at the Casa-Museo del Campesino after it was damaged by 85 km/h winds experienced yesterday.

“We want to guarantee the safety of our tourists, visitors and workers, and the durability of a work of art that has become one of the most representative images of the island,” stated CACT director, Ángel Vázquez.

CACT staff fenced off the area surrounding the sculpture before using a crane to dismantle and remove the damaged sections.

Over the next few days the damage will be assessed before repairs are made and the top of the sculpture is restored.
