A Binter pilot has reported being targeted with a high powered laser beam while approaching Lanzarote’s César Manrique Airport.
Pilot Sergio Pila reported the incident on his Twitter account, stating that a laser beam was seen in the cabin last Friday, while flying over Playa Blanca.
It happened “not once, not twice, but as long as possible”, said Pila. “We were lucky since it didn’t hit the cabin directly and the curtains reduced its effect”.
“It may seem like a game to some, but it risks the safety of the crew and the passengers”, Pila continued. The incident has been reported to the Guardia Civil, although it is unlikely that the culprit will be located. Dazzling or distracting pilots with lasers is a serious crime that can lead to fines between 30,000 and 600,000 euros.
