Las Grietas parking closed

Tías Ayuntamiento has excavated a ditch between the LZ-35 and the unofficial parking area opposite Las Grietas, in order to halt the traffic problems and safety risks in the area.

Parking was forbidden in the spot in late January after numerous reports of crowding and cars crossing an unbroken white line in a place where passing traffic is often going at high speeds. Pedestrians were also often seen crossing the road rather than using the nearby underpass. 

A “No Parking” sign and fines from the Guardia Civil failed to halt the problem, but yesterday a digger was sent to excavate a trench, effectively making it impossible to park there.

Visitors who wish to visit Las Grietas will now have to park in Montaña Blanca and face a 1.5 km uphill hike to Las Grietas.
