A large fire affected the Lanzarote Bus warehouse in Arrecife yesterday evening, damaging nine buses and two vans and causing a plume of smoke that could be seen for several miles away.

It’s the latest misfortune to befall the bus company, which saw one of its vehicles involved in a collision near Playa Blanca last week, just days after another accident which saw a bus crash through a wall of the hangar it was being kept in.

The BP garage and a restaurant were evacuated during the fire, and residents nearby were advised to remain indoors with windows closed to avoid smoke. Initial reports suggest that up to 10 buses may have suffered fire damage. Firefighters demolished one of the walls of the hangar with a digger in order to try and save other buses.
