Lanzarote’s firemen won the “Best Technical Team in the World” award at the recent World Rescue Challenge competition in the Azores.
The Lanzarote “bomberos” also won third place in the overall classification, with top three performances in the triage and critical maneuvre categories.
Their skills were required immediately on their return when 79-year-old man was rescued from his vehicle on Saturday afternoon after an accident on the Avenida de Golf in Costa Teguise.
The accident involved two cars, and the man was the passenger in one of the vehicles. Paramedics splinted the mans leg before firemen arrived, extracted him from the vehicle and moved him to an ambulance in a stretcher.
