Canal Gestión, the Madrid-based company that has operated Lanzarote’s water utility since its privatisation in 2013, are seeking another company to take the contract over.
Cabildo water councillor Domingo Cejas revealed yesterday that the company had requested suspension of the legal process that is underway to terminate the contract, allowing them to find another company to take over the existing contract.
According to Cejas, this request means that “Canal Gestión has given in”, having earlier resisted proposals to transfer the contract to other companies.
Lanzarote’s Water Consortium, a committee formed of mayors and councillors, will decide on Canal’s request on Monday. Canal Gestión have, so far, not issued any statement.
