The yellow alert for heat issued by Spain’s weather agency AEMET has been extended to Thursday, with forecasts predicting that the minor heatwave will last until the weekend.

Alerts are only issued two days ahead, but indications are that the hot weather and fairly mild calima conditions won’t change much until Saturday. Temperatures are predicted to reach 34 degrees Celsius and visibility will be reduced to 3 kilometres.

Yellow alerts aren’t particularly serious, but they do remind citizens to keep an eye on the weather just in case it gets worse and allow anyone who is, for example, thinking of hiking up a volcano to maybe think twice. They’re also useful for the elderly, parents of young children, those suffering from respiratory diseases or other conditions and other vulnerable people and their carers.
