Lanzarote’s Chamber of Commerce of Lanzarote has presented a survey on the island’s taxi services, warning that the service is “lacking and can be improved.”

The Chamber warns that “the tourist situation of Lanzarote causes saturation scenarios in demand” as well as that residents “cannot use the service when most vehicles are displaced to tourist areas.”

The report also complains that the central dispatch systems of the sector are “inoperative”, that there are no taxis at night and that the vehicles “do not pick up passengers despite returning empty.”

The study proposes that, at times of high demand, any taxi can collect passengers from the airport and cruise port “to avoid unnecessary queues and waiting”, as well as permitting taxi drivers can collect passengers in municipalities other than their own when there is a high demand.

The granting of VTC (private hire vehicle licences) is also recommended by the report, allowing platforms such as Uber to operate “as a regulated complement to the traditional service”.
