Lanzarote has experienced its strongest-ever start to a year, with an increase in international arrivals putting it firmly on the map as a top global destination.

The island has recorded a new tourism milestone, having welcomed a record-breaking 2.3 million visitors between January and August, according to data.

This figure, provided by the Lanzarote Data Centre, represents the highest the island has ever seen in that eight-month period. It also marks a dramatic increase of around 100,000 travellers compared to the same months in 2024. To put the long-term boom into perspective, the island has welcomed 400,000 more tourists than it did a decade ago in 2015.

As ever, the UK remains Lanzarote’s most important international market, with British tourists making up just over half of the international arrivals.

Ireland solidified its position as the second-largest source of tourists, with a strong contingent of 257,811 visitors enjoying the island between January and August.

The Spanish market itself claimed third place, with 228,458 holidaymakers from the mainland and other islands choosing Lanzarote for their getaways.

The island continues to be a favourite for its core European markets. Germany and France contributed significantly to the boom, sending 193,158 and 162,025 visitors respectively. They were followed by travellers from Italy (58,793), the Netherlands (57,076), the Nordic countries as a whole (41,183), and Belgium (37,454). A further 107,922 people arrived from destinations across the rest of the world.
