Lanzarote has started 2026 with record-breaking tourism figures, despite recent concerns about a possible slowdown during the summer season.

According to the latest data, the island received 937,940 visitors between January and March, an increase of 2.5% compared to the same period last year. This represents around 22,500 additional tourists arriving on the island during the first quarter.

The strongest growth came in January, when Lanzarote welcomed 309,597 visitors, marking a significant 12.5% rise over January 2025, when 275,232 tourists arrived.

Although February saw a slight decline, the strong January performance was enough to keep overall figures ahead of last year. In February, tourist arrivals dropped by 2.2%, with 302,808 visitors compared to 314,382 in the same month of 2025.

Meanwhile, March figures remained almost unchanged year-on-year, with 325,463 tourists visiting the island.

The first-quarter results come despite warnings from the Lanzarote Tourism Federation (FTL), which has expressed concerns over weaker booking trends for May and the upcoming summer season. The organisation has particularly noted a slowdown in reservations from the United Kingdom – Lanzarote’s largest tourism market, accounting for more than half of all visitors.

Attention will now turn to the April and May figures to determine whether the predicted slowdown begins to impact the island’s tourism sector.
