The island’s Security and Emergencies Consortium have reported that they had recorded wind speeds up to 84km/h this week, which has caused various callouts for local fire fighters.
The windows on the façade of the Barceló Hotel in Costa Teguise became detached from their frames due to the high wind speeds. Fire fighters arrived to find that two of the large glass panes had broken also.
Another incident occurred at the Combustibles Canarios petrol station in Uga, where metal plates on the roof of the station had to be fixed down after coming loose and posing a hazard to the road beneath.
Lastly, the third incident was a fallen telephone cable in Calle Timbayba in San Bartolomé. The fire fighters arrived at the scene to assess any damage, and later fixed the cable back into position.
