Public transport on Lanzarote has recorded an 8% increase in passengers in the first half of 2025, according to the Cabildo.

The island’s public transport system recorded a total of 4,021,606 passengers between January and June 2025. This figure represents an increase of 8.47% over the same period last year, when 3,707,718 passengers were recorded.

Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, stated “The bus fleet additions and the increase of schedules, are actions that have made public transport respond better and better to the needs of citizens, which is why more people choose it as an alternative to private vehicles.”

Of the total number of passengers counted so far this year, 65% do so by means of one of the various transport discounts offered, while the rest pay for their trip directly, either with cash or by bank card. It should be noted that, since the implementation of the card payment system in February 2024, this option already represents 14% of direct payments without discounts.

Cabildo Transport Councillor, Miguel Ángel Jiménez, also highlighted the increase in the number of residents who have availed themselves of the Bono Residente Canario. “From the end of 2024 to June this year we have experienced a 13% increase in its issuance, reaching 32,991 beneficiaries on the island, which confirms the growing interest in the most economical and sustainable transport formulas”.
