Lanzarote presented its annual Tourism Awards in Playa Blanca last night. Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort hosted the event, which was attended by Canarian Tourism Minister Jessica de León.

The prestigious Isla de Lanzarote award was presented to Binter airlines, while the business award was won by Calero Marinas.

The cultural award was collected by the Batucada Villa Pipol, one of the loudest and most well-costumed drum groups, while a Personality Award was awarded posthumously to Liliana Stamatovic, who directed Thomas Cook for many years.

Special Mentions were given to Lani’s Suites de Luxe, the Guanapay folk group and Pedro Santana Lemes, the owner of Playa Blanca’s Casa Pedro restaurant, which closed in April after more than 40 years.
