The ex-Spanish President José Luís Zapatero has said that Lanzarote “is one of the greatest discoveries of my life.”
Zapatero visited the island with his family on several occasions during his time in power, and has since purchased a property in Famara. In an interview on Radio Lanzarote he said that “few places give such health, well.being and happiness.”
The islanders are “friendly and peaceful” with a “good lifestyle” he said, and praised the island for looking after the legacy of César Manrique.
A seasoned political campaigner, Zapatero also praised the island’s recovery from the pandemic under the presidency of his party colleague, Cabildo President María Dolores Corujo.
