The Lanzarote Cabildo, in collaboration with SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, has begun work on a new campaign on ethical and responsible tourism.
Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, stressed that “the goal is to promote a more conscious tourism model, respectful and committed to the common good.”
“We’re going to send the message that Lanzarote doesn’t just want any tourist, but ones that respect and care for the island”, Betancort added.
As CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, highlighted the innovative and transformative dimension of the project: “Today we have launched one of the most important tenders the Foreign Promotion Society has ever participated in. This is an awareness-raising campaign aimed at promoting ethical tourism, which will involve interdisciplinary work with key departments of the Island Council. It is a distinct and far-reaching campaign that can contribute to changing the way tourism is perceived on the island. It is also aimed at the local population, and its messages will even be integrated into our actions with airlines and tour operators. It is a project that can help change the paradigm of the destination and the way tourists interact with it.”
