Lanzarote’s hotel sector enjoyed a strong performance in May 2026, with revenue reaching €54 million, representing a 9.8% increase compared with the €49.2 million recorded in May 2025, according to data from the Lanzarote Data Centre.
The increase was driven by a combination of higher room rates and greater visitor numbers. The average nightly room rate climbed 6% year-on-year to €126.50, up from €119.30 in May 2025.
Hotels across the island also welcomed significantly more guests. The number of travellers staying in Lanzarote’s hotels rose by 7.9%, adding around 12,000 extra visitors and bringing the total to 168,375 guests during the month.
Demand was also reflected in overnight stays, which increased by 6.5%, rising from 890,736 in May 2025 to 948,799 this year.
Despite the increase in visitors, hotel occupancy fell from 79.4% last May to 74.9% in May 2026. The decline was not the result of weaker demand but rather a substantial increase in accommodation capacity. The number of available hotel beds expanded from 39,177 to 42,719 over the year.
Employment in the hotel sector also recorded notable growth. Hotel establishments employed 10,793 people in May, an 18.8% increase compared with the 9,082 workers recorded during the same month last year.
