Lanzarote Cabildo has installed new electric vehicle charging points in several municipalities as part of its ongoing plan to expand the island’s charging network and promote sustainable mobility.

The new infrastructure has been financed through the Canary Islands Development Funds.

During a visit to Tías, Cabildo President Oswaldo Betancort highlighted the progress made since the current administration took office.

“When this term began, Lanzarote had only three electric charging points. Today, all municipalities now have this service, with seven new chargers installed,” he said. “Our goal is to continue advancing towards a more sustainable and decarbonised Lanzarote.”

Regional Minister for Energy Miguel Ángel Jiménez said the department has been working continuously to increase the number of charging stations across the island.

“We have not only focused on installing chargers in all seven municipalities, but we have also modernised the existing facilities in Playa Blanca, Arrieta and Monumento al Campesino, which had become outdated,” he explained.

Jiménez added that the Cabildo intends to continue expanding the network in order to encourage more residents to switch to electric vehicles.

Charging points in Playa Honda, Tinajo and Arrecife are expected to become operational shortly, while the facilities in Costa Teguise and Tías are already in service.

The Cabildo has invested more than €300,000 in the project, aimed at creating a modern, accessible and island-wide charging network to support cleaner transport across Lanzarote.
