Playa Blanca is set to welcome boutique cruise ships from November. The Lanzarote Cabildo has confirmed the port’s readiness, marking a significant step forward for the island’s nautical tourism sector.
President of the Cabildo, Oswaldo Betancort, expressed his satisfaction after the Port Authority gave its final approval for the port infrastructure. The first vessel, measuring 207 metres in length, is expected to arrive in the last quarter of the year.
“Playa Blanca is ready to begin operating cruise ships following its renovation,” said President Betancort. “This is a key infrastructure project that expands Lanzarote’s capacity to attract a type of visitor drawn to the destination’s quality and unique character.”
Operations at the port will not be limited to boutique cruise ships. The facility will also receive mega yachts and luxury vessels.
Betancort highlighted that this progress results from coordinated efforts between the Canary Islands Government and Turismo Lanzarote, which have finally brought a long awaited project to fruition following the port’s renovation.
Playa Blanca already handles nearly 800,000 passengers annually in regular traffic, making it one of the island’s principal port facilities.
