Cabildo President, Oswaldo Betancort, presented the first edition of the Lanzarote International Cup this Thursday. A footballing event that will bring together more than 5,000 participants and 82 clubs in June 2024.

The event was presented this Thursday at the Castillo de San José in Arrecife. “Lanzarote will host for the first time a macro sporting event that will be an opportunity for the economy, tourism promotion of the island worldwide and the promotion of sport”, stated Betancort at the presentation.

Betancort added that he is especially excited to present the even “because it is the first edition of a football tournament that has guaranteed success and institutional support. It is an ambitious project that is not easy to organise, but for that reason I want to promote an initiative like this on the island.”

“The Lanzarote International Cup will bring together 82 clubs from the Canaries internationally to play their matches on football pitches across the island.”

The event will be held from June 26th to June 30th, 2024, with footballers between the ages of 8 to 11 years old. The first edition will have 82 participating teams with 1,300 athletes and coaches, joined by 2,600 accompanying persons, and will be played on football pitches across Lanzarote.

INTERNATIONAL PARTICIPATION

In addition to the Canarian teams taking part, there will also be teams from La Liga such as Real Madrid, Atlético de Madrid, Valencia, Villarreal, Las Palmas, Tenerife and international teams including Arsenal, Porto, and teams from the USA, Mexico, Japan, Greece, among others.
